Deepika Kumari is an Indian sportswoman who participates in the event of Archery. She ranks number one in the world in this sport. She bagged gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and got a chance to represent India in the 2012 London Olympics. She could only get 8th place in the women’s team even in Olympics. She was awarded with Padma Shri , the fourth highest civilian award of India by Government of India in 2016. She was born on 13 June 1994 in Rajauli, Bihar, India. Kumari qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she competed in the Women's Individual and Women's team events, finishing in eighth place in the latter. She was conferred the Arjuna Award, India's second highest sporting award in the year 2012 by President of India Pranab Mukherjee. In February 2014, she was honored with FICCI Sportsperson of the Year Award. She got her training at the Arjun Archery Academy run by Meera Munda, wife of the Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda. In 2006, she joined Tata Archery Academy at Jamshedpur. She won the cadet World Championship title in November 2009. She joined KMCT College at Ranchi to study arts. She won her first World Cup individual recurve gold medal at Antalya in Turkey in Ma 2012. In that year, she became the number one in the world in the Women’s Recurve Archery. She was honored with the Outstanding Performance at CWG award at Sahara Sports Award 2010.
