Shekhar Gupta is the chief editor of the Indian newspaper The Indian Express. He also appears on NDTV 24x7 channel in the Walk the Talk show. He received Padma Bhushan award in the year 2009 from Government of India for his contributions to journalism. He was born on 28th August 1957 and has a 33 year record in journalism. He started his career as a cub reporter of The Indian Express in its Chandigarh edition in 1977. After three years, he covered the raging insurgencies and civil unrest in the north eastern part of India. He was only twenty three at that time. Then he served as a reporter in India Today and later became the editor of the same newspaper. He covered the ringside view contemporary history starting from Operation Bluestar to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He covered in his writings many important events in the world like fall of the Berlin Wall, Gulf War, Jihad in Afghanistan, Tiananmen Square in Beijing and Sri Lankan issues. He brought to light the LTTE training camps in India and the spy scandal of ISRO. He has travelled to many parts of the world like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Germany, US and UK.

He heads the 77 year prestigious Express Group with 13 influential publications. He has a persistent sense of inquiry and unbeatable fairness and professionalism. He is fearless and fair in his writings in his weekly column called National Interest. The Walk on the Talk program is completing its seventh year. He is a guest speaker in many forums like the Asia Society at New York, National Defense College, World Economic Forum, etc. His book, Assam: A Valley Divided and India Redefines Its Role was published by the Oxford University Press and the International Institute of Strategic Studies, London.
