Jared Mason Diamond is an American scientist and author best known for his popular science books The Third Chimpanzee (1991), Guns, Germs, and Steel (1997, awarded a Pulitzer Prize), Collapse (2005) and The World Until Yesterday (2012). Diamond was born on September 10, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts. He received his early education from Roxbury Latin School and obtained his B.A degree from Harvard College. Later he studied at the prestigious Trinity College, University of Cambridge where he did Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics in 1961. In 1997, he published his second book, titled Guns, Germs, and Steel. The Fates of Human Societies. He received the National Medal Of Science in 1999.
