Solomon Halbert Snyder is an American neuroscientist from Washington D.C, who is well known for researching addiction and its effects on the brain. Solomon Snyder was born on December 26, 1938 in Washington D.C. Snyder received his undergraduate and medical training at Georgetown University and his psychiatric training at The Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Snyder has numerous awards to his credit, including the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research in 1978, the Wolf Prize from the President of Israel in 1983, the Bower Award of the Franklin Institute in 1992, the National Medal of Science in 2003 and the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research in 2007. He is the recipient of nine honorary doctorates and has been elected to many honorific societies, including the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Science and the American Philosophical Society. He is Associate Editor for Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. He co-founded Nova Pharmaceuticals and Guilford Pharmaceuticals and chaired their scientific advisory boards.
