Alka Saraogi is an Indian novelist and short story writer in the Hindi language. She is a recipient of the 2001 Sahitya Akademi Award for Hindi for her novel Kalikatha: Via Bypass. She was born in Kolkata on  November 17, 1960. She was born in a Marwari family of Rajasthani origin. She studied at Calcutta University and also completed PhD. She started writing only after her marriage and motherhood. She has two children. She started off with short stories and later moved to novels. Ap ki hamsi was her first published short story. The title of the book was derived from one of the works of her favourite writer, Raghuvir sahay. It was published in a Hindi literary journal with the help of her mentor, Ashok Seksaria. She published her short story collection - Kahani Ki talas mein in 1996. Doosri Kahani, Ek Break ke baad, Koi Baat Nahi, Jankidas Tejpal mansion, Kahani ki talas mem and Shesh Kadambari are other published works. 

In 2002, she was one among the 22 authors from different languages who were honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Awards, 2001. Mahim Bora, Atin Bandyopadhyaya, Rajmohan Gandhi, Dhiruben Gordhandas Patel, Abdul Vaheed Kamal, Attoor Ravi Varma etc were other major names who were honoured during the prestigious function. Kalikatha is about Kishore babu and four generations of his family. She also received Shrikant Verma award in 1998.
