Ethnicity, Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women appear to be much publicised cliched concepts of the 21st Century. Gender issues in India, now- a–days has taken an unprecedented dimensions. Violence against women in the domestic as well as public areas has increased in quantum. Equally it is true that in some regions and for some groups of women, there has been transformation in educational levels, income generating capacity and ability to live a decent life without economic dependence on kinship or state institutions. A more gender equitable legal regime is also in place. In urban environments, there has been some positive change in the personal freedoms available for women. Evaluating the effectiveness for gender equality and for gender sensitization social scientists are focusing on attitude towards gender equality, gender stereotyping with special focus on Indian realities.
