Indian History (1857-1964)

The book elaborates the forces, movements and institutions that have contributed to the making of modern India. Historical research during the last four decades has led to several new insights into the study of modern Indian History. The book incorporates the major developments in historical research since independence. Besides dealing with political convulsions in India during this period, the book also emphasizes the administrative and constitutional developments, the peasant movements, social and cultural awakening, and the growth of political consciousness. A detailed study of the freedom struggle from its inception to the attainment of independence and its aftermath is also included in the book. Model questions including objective-type questions and chronology of important events have been appended to familiarise the students with the nature of problems to be faced by them in the examination.
