Astha Agarwal, a 20-year-old Jaipur girl and an IIT-Bombay student who got a Rs. 2.1-crore job offer from Facebook, has some competition.

Gaurav Agarwal, a student of IIT-Indore, has got a Rs. 1.7-crore job offer from Google for working with the company as a software engineer. This is one of the fattest pay packages offered to anIITian this year and the biggest offer made to an IIT-Indore student in three years of its existence.

IIT-Indore's Gaurav Agrawal, a native of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, is now rubbing shoulders with IIT-BHU student who fetched an annual package of Rs 2.03 crore from Oracle and IIT-Bombay girl who got a job offer of Rs 2 crore (Rs 20 million) from social networking site, Facebook. This offer is highest package received by any IIT-Indore student in past three years of placement seasons.

Gaurav Agarwal said that "We were told Google was conducting a test online. I appeared for the test. After being shortlisted we were called for on-site interview session at Gurgaon. Further interviews were held at Bangalore. Questions were asked related to programming structure and algorithms. I have received offer letter to join as software engineer in US,". His joining date is yet to come.

Gaurav, 21, is the first engineer in his family. "My family has no connection with engineering. I am the first engineer from the family. This offer has come as extremely encouraging for the family which has always been into family business," said Gaurav.

Gaurav is excited about the place where he will be posted. "I would be working in Mountain view, California. The place is a hub of all software giants. So, that is adding up to the excitement."

The overall campus placement at IIT-Indore in 2014 stands at 85%. The figure has witnessed a slump as compared to the previous year. According to official sources, this year, out of 103 students, 87 were placed. While the computer science recorded 100% placement, mechanical and electrical engineering branches recorded 75% and 77% placements, respectively.

Some prominent companies that took part in the campus recruitment include Microsoft, De Shaw, Amazon, Snapdeal, United Health Group, Flipkart, Quaalcomm, CISCO, Mahindra and Mahindra, AVTEC, Virtusa, Tata Motors and L&T, among others.
