Cabinet has approved Rs 1,500 crore outlay for Prandhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana which is the flagship skill training scheme of the Narendra Modi government. It will be implemented through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) by the newly formed ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, headed by Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
The scheme will basically target school dropouts, especially Class 10 and Class 12 and fresh crop of youth entering the labor market. The scheme will train the candidates in Solar Mission, Make in India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Digital India and also personal grooming, good work ethics, soft skills and attitude towards cleanliness.
Government said that the scheme will cover 24 lakh people. Skill training will be based on standards set by the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and industry requirements. Trainees will also monetary award at the end of the training, on the basis of assessment and certification by third-party bodies. On an average, monetary reward will be around Rs 8,000 per trainee.
