Over 73,000 applications have been received by the Directorate of Education (DoE) for 23,000 nursery seats under the Economic Weaker Section (EWS) category. The DoE has also issued guidelines to schools regarding the computerized draw, which has been centralized for the first time with the note to make the entire process transparent. Draw of lots for the same has been conducted yesterday. A DoE official said,“The total number of online applications received is 73,059 and total number of seats is 28,193. Hence, every applicant can’t be selected in draw of lots.”
He added that the draw for admissions will be conducted and the school allotted for admission under EWS/ DG category shall be sent through SMS on the registered mobile number of the applicant within 24 hours of completion of draw of lots. The successful applicant may approach the school allotted in draw upto February 22, failing which his or her candidature will be cancelled. Schools have been instructed to properly examine (EWS) certificates and any income certificate from the parents/applicants who have been selected under Disadvantaged Students Category (DG).
The circular said, “The school shall carefully carry out the necessary scrutiny/verification of the documents produced. The school must also verify the genuineness of EWS/DG certificates issued by the different department through online or in writing from the office of issuing authority. The school shall not ask for income certificate from those EWS category parents who submit copy of BPL/AAY/Food Security Card issued by food and civil supply department. The school shall not impose the condition for attested copies of documents."
