With an aim to protect and safeguard heritage of audiovisual media like film, television, radio, photographic prints, the CBSE is all set to observe World Day for Audiovisual Heritage on October 27. The board has suggested schools to celebrate by digitizing photographs; organizing week-long film festivals and creating own film posters. The board hopes these activities will help in connecting the youth with their rich audiovisual heritage.

"Students may digitize their old school/local village/town/city photographs, which are available only in print form. They may also restore the prints using photo-editing software. They can celebrate the works of renowned directors such as Satyajit Ray, Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, Akira Kurosawa, Sergei M Eisenstein, Federico Fellini by screening their classics," said Sugandh Sharma, additional director (research and innovation) CBSE.

Students can also celebrate the diversity of Asian audiovisual heritage through folk/classical music and dance presentations. Students can create their own film posters as were done before the era of flex posters and digital prints.

The schools may conduct these activities in three groups of classes VI-VIII, IX-X and XI-XII till National Youth Day on January 12, 2016, and culminate it in the form of an 'Audio Visual Heritage Festival 2016'

It was the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) which decided to observe October 27 as World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. This is done by building global awareness of issues on preserving audiovisual material, such as sound recordings and moving images.

Through these activities, the CBSE aims to bring history and culture of the country alive for students through screening of films from yesteryears, to promote awareness of and involvement of students in preserving the audiovisual heritage of our country, to inculcate respect for diversity, tolerance, mutual understanding and to inspire students to build a future through an understanding of the past and the present.
