Foundations laid for 3 medical colleges in Jharkhand

Foundation stones has been laid on Thursday by Raghubar Das, Chief Minister of Jharkhand for three medical colleges in Palamau, Hazaribagh and Dumka. Terming the day as historic, the chief minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J P Nadda to help improve health facilities in the state. He said while the Centre is spending 60 per cent, the state's contribution is 40 per cent.

CM Das said that land for three more medical colleges at Bokaro, Chaibasa and Koderma have been identified and foundation will be laid soon when he was laying the foundation stone of the much awaited medical college in Palamu region, which will come up at Rs 292.7 crore on 12 acre of land. This is the first time after 45 years that foundation stone of any medical college has been laid in the region.

The last medical college had come up in Dhanbad as Patliputra Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in 1971. Das in his address at Pokhraha village in Palamu said that even after several decades of independence, patients of Palamu region still move to Ranchi for treatment. But, now they will get better treatment in their own district.

Raghubar Das said the government was providing 329 ambulances to panchayats to improve health services in villages. At Dumka, the CM laid foundation stone of 500-bed hospital, which would come up on 25 acres of land. He added that only speeches will not make a difference. Action on ground is required, which is visible in Jharkhand after 16 years. Our government is working to eliminate poverty.

Later, chief minister Ragbhubar Das laid the foundation stone for a third medical college in Hazaribag. The proposed 100-bed hospital will come up on 25 acre of land at cost of Rs 258.6 crore. 

He said that new medical colleges are being set up in this state after a gap of 45 years. It is expected to be completed within 18 months. Das reiterated that health and education were among the priority sectors of the state government. They want to improve facilities in these sectors in coming days.
