Since the last six months, city-based Group Captain Nitin Yashwant Patil was on a study leave from his Indian Air Force job and it’s not for any academic course that he is pursuing, but for his 17-year-old Shrishti who was appearing for the state common entrance test.

The medical aspirant from Army Public School finally made it worthwhile for her father as on Wednesday, the family learnt her MHCET score to be a whopping 199/200, probably the highest in the city. Speaking to The Indian Express, Shrishti could barely contain her excitement and expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped her.

I was confident I would do reasonably well, but never thought I would do as well as a 199,” says the teenager, who admits that she did not go overboard with her preparation and only studied for two to three hours everyday. Most of her time was spent either at school or tuition classes.

I used to get up for school at about 8 am and get done with my tuition classes by 9 pm. This left me with only a couple of hours for self study every day. My tuition classes were particularly helpful as among other things, they taught me the importance of time management during an exam,” Shrishti said.

However, it wasn’t just tuition and school that she had to thank for but both her parents who were involved in her preparations. Her mother Ratna Patil, an assistant professor at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, particularly helped in the preparations.

However, Shrishti’s mother admits there was a time when they were worried about her score. “For two years, she prepared for CET pattern and the sudden decision of NEET had rattled her. At the last minute, she started preparing and though her score was 560/720 in AIPMT, I think it would have been far better had she got an advance notice,” she said.

Shrishti wants to get into cardiology as the human heart has always fascinated her. In her spare time, Shrishti likes to play the piano and is an avid reader, with The Lord of the Rings and Artemis Fowl series being her favourite novels.
