Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated the academic session of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Bodh Gaya in Bihar recently. For the B-School the Magadh University administration has made 119 acres of land available. State Education Minister P.K. Shahi said that the process of land transfer in the name of the committee now needs to get completed for the IIM Bodhgaya campus.
At the Magadh University’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) building, the union HRD Minister Smriti Irani also inaugurated the IIM Bodh Gaya’s transit campus along with the academic session of IIM in the state.
She also laid the foundation stone of seven buildings of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) campus at Panchanpur near Gaya. She insisted the CUSM authorities to at least adopt five villages around the university campus and ensure that the villages get all round development in the coming year during their administration.
The students of the newly proposed IIM would get 90 hostel rooms for accommodation in the very first year. IIM Calcutta is made the mentor institute of IIM Bodh Gaya for a year, until it becomes fully functional from the next academic year. Magadh University has given around 20,000 square feet of space to the temporary IIM campus that is spread over two floors of the DDE building. Though the course would begin two months late than the usual academic schedule, it is hoped that the lost time would be compensated gradually. The very first class on behavioural science was taken by IIM Calcutta faculty member Amit Jyoti Sen in which 30 students from 9 different states took part.
