The Indian Institute of Chartered Accountant (ICAI) had declared the results of the Chartered Accountants (CA) final examination and Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on January 17.
A 28 -year-old local tea seller Somnath Giram, who lives in a small village in Solapur district and sells tea at a joint in Sadashiv Peth area, qualified the exam. Now, Somnath has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Maharashtra government's 'earn and learn' scheme.
According to a report in Press Trust of India (PTI), the Maharashtra State Education Minister, Vinod Tawde said, "Nowadays, there are acche din (good days) for chaiwallas (tea sellers). Those who sold tea became Prime Minister and now Somnath became CA while serving tea, and to inspire students like him, I announce him as the brand ambassador for 'earn and learn' scheme of the state (government)."
On being the brand ambassador for Maharashtra scheme, Somnath Giram said, "I have received the news through media and I am very happy that the state government has announced me as the brand ambassador for 'earn and learn scheme'. I will work towards the welfare of poor students who are determined," he included.
In India, chartered accountants are regulated by the ICAI, which was set up by the Chartered Accountants Act 1949. The exam is conducted twice a year. The next examination will take place in the month of June.
