The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Fontbonne University a $2.5 million grant to fund student tuition for the school's Master of Arts in Deaf Education Collaborative program.
The idea is to train students to serve children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The five-year grant will make it possible for Fontbonne to award scholarships that will cover 90 percent of a student's tuition, said Gale Rice, dean of the College of Education and Allied Health Professions.
More than 30 candidates will be selected to participate in the degree program. The first scholarships will be awarded beginning in June.
