Rajahmundry is one of the major cities in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located in East Godavari district on the banks of the Godavari River. It is the Divisional Headquarter and a largest city in the East Godavari district.
According to 2011 census, it is the seventh most populous city in Andhra Pradesh with population of 343,903 and the urban agglomeration population is 478,199. Asia's Second largest Road cum Rail Bridge is situated on the Godavari River connecting Kovvur and Rajahmundry on the Howrah-Chennai main line.
In its earlier days it was called as Rajahmahendrapuram or Rajamahendravaram. It has vast agricultural land with irrigation potential due to the presence of river Godavari. The city is known as the Cultural Capital of Andhra Pradesh which is noted for its versatile Vedic culture and intellect. Rajahmundry is not only one of the historical city, where literary activities flourished but also famous for its political, economical, social and cultural background.
