Sishya was founded in 1972. The school has gradually developed over the years until it has evolved into a full fledged Higher Secondary School, offering the +2 since 1986. The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, whose offices are in New Delhi. It prepares students for the ICSE (Class X) and the ISC (Class XII) examinations. Sishya has been granted Christian Minority status by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions.
SCHOOL STRUCTURE
The school has 14 classes, commencing with the LKG upto the 12th class. LKG and UKG are housed in the Grace Cherian ITC Pre-school Block, Classes I to VII in the Auditorium Block, Classes VIII to X in the Senior School Block and Classes XI and XII in the Thangam Thomas Memorial Library Building.
The school endeavours to keep the number of students per class to a minimum, balancing efficiency and quality, with economy. From KG to Class X there are not more than 30 per Class.
The present strength of the school is approximately 1200 students and 85 teaching staff.
FACILITIES
The school has a state of the art Library with a Multimedia Section and Audiovisual Room. There are fully equipped Laboratories for Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science.
To stimulate the minds of younger children, there is a separate Junior Science Lab. There is also a specialized Art Department.
FOSTERING THE HOUSE SPIRIT
To foster character, creativity, team spirit and healthy competition among the pupils, the whole school is divided into four houses namely Narmada, Godavari, Sutlej and Cauvery. The children are assigned to one of the houses from class 2 onwards. They wear different coloured house shirts every Friday and house assembly is held every friday. There are inter house competitions in arts, sports, debate etc in the school on a regular basis. This develops a team spirit to work for a common goal of making the house excel. Each house is given points based on their performance and the overall champions of the school is declared every year and they are the proud owners of the coveted trophy for the best house for a period of one year.
GAMES AND SPORTS
The school has extensive games fields. Cricket, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey, Throwball, Athletics, Table Tennis and Badminton are some of the games available. Qualified coaches are available to guide the children.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The school also encourages co-curricular activities such as dance, drama, singing, debates, elocution etc. through Inter House Competitions.

CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENTS
M. Bhushan of Class 7 topped in the Science subject and won a gold medal in the FIIT JEE Talent Reward Exam conducted by FIIT JEE Ltd in association with The Hindu Education Plus in December 2009.
AOTS Dosokai, Chennai organized a drawing competition on “Japan through the eyes of an Indian child” and R. Preetha of Class 7 placed 1st, Abhishek Daniel of Class 11 placed 2nd and Reenu Paul Arikkat of Class 9 came in 3rd.
The National Bio-Diversity Authority of India, Taramani felicitated Vikas Madhav of Class 6 at their 8th Foundation Day, for his contribution towards bio-diversity through wild life and nature photography.
At ORCA – the Lady Andal Culturals, Nayantara Elizabeth Thomas and Sasha Tanvi Shah of Class 12 got the third prize in the Shoe Designing contest and Sarvatmika Rajeev, V. Apsara and Mohd. Muzammil Khan also of Class 12 got the first prize in the Face Painting competition.
Nandagopal Srinivasan and Rohan Jacob Verghese of Class 10 represented Sishya and stood first among 28 schools at the Annual Schooler Ruler Radio Quiz conducted by Chennai Live 104.8 FM.
Crystaline Jeanette John of Class 10 secured 2nd place in Group I and Cherubina Fredrick of Class 9 placed 1st in Group II at the Ruby Jemima Memorial Inter School Piano competition conducted by Vidyodaya School Society.
Arvind Ram Tyagarajan, Anya Reddy, Sibie Arunmozhi and Rachna Ramanathan won the Best Delegation Award at the Chettinad Vidyashram Model United Nations Conference. Manasa G. Rao and Abhimanyu Sridhar got the Best Delegate Award for the General Assembly, Ishani Bose for Human Rights Commission, Arvind Ram Tyagarajan for the Environment Committee and a Special Mention was made of J Sushant and Shivani Shrimal for their performance and contribution.
At SANMUN – Sankara Model United Nations Conference, Shruti of Class 12 bagged the Best Delegate Award.
SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS
Golf
Shivnaren Srininvasan of Class 10 is a very promising golfer and was declared winner in the National Junior Golf Tournament held in Coimbatore in May 2010. At the National Junior Golf Tournament held at Ooty he was the runner-up.
Equestrian
Ishaan Sameer Saral of Class 5 won Gold for Dressage and Silver for the Show Jumping event at the South Indian Equestrian Association Show Jumping Meet held at Coonoor on the 7th – 9th of May 2010.
Badminton
M. Roshini of Class 9 is a very promising young badminton player. At the State level in the Under 16 category she is ranked No.1 for doubles and No.2 in the Singles.
M. Shivani of Class 9 won Gold in the Singles and Doubles Under 17 category at the Badminton Tournament conducted by MGR Janaki College.
Squash
Brothers, Ramit Tandon of Class 12 and Rishi Tandon of Class 10 have done Sishya proud at many a squash tournament. Ramit became the highest ranked junior in the country when he won the National Junior Championship title in the Under 19 category. Rishi placed 4th in the same event. At the Inter State level, Ramit’s team won the Under 19 title.
Swimming
Nikita Bhaiya of Class 7 is a very promising swimmer who has won many medals at the State level. She was selected to represent Tamil Nadu in the Sub Junior National Championship.
