The Maharaja Bodhchandra College popularly known as M.B. College, was established on September 8,1969 and is situated in the heart of the city near the Govindaji Temple in a 3.05 acres of land gifted by the then Maharaja of Manipur Shri Okendrajit Singh in his revered father's name His Highness Shri Shri Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh or Leishemba. The College is co-educational and is continuing to impart quality education to students till now. The College
was affiliated to Gauhati University before the Manipur University was born. Now, it is affiliated to Manipur University (now a Central University). Earlier it had classes from Class XI to Full Degree Course, but now the higher secondary section has been delinked by the State Government and it is imparting education to only Degree courses in both Honours and General Streams. There are nine arts subjects namely, English, Manipuri, Political Science, Education, Economics, History, Geography, Mathematics and Philosophy opened in this college.
At present the total strength of the teaching and non-teaching staffs of the college is 53. There are 28 regular faculty members, 10 part-time lecturers and one guest lecturer, and 14 non-teaching staff.

To promote multi-disciplinary approaches in teaching-learning process and enhance research among faculty members by upgrading the institution and developing infrastructure
To instill and enrich sense of responsibility, accountability and ethical values among the students and faculty members towards achieving higher goals in life
To produce human capital of global competency Philosophy: The college believes in the philosophy that knowledge is an eternal gift, which is enabling as well as enlightening. Its quest should not be an elusive one. Thus, the college holds the utmost principle of imparting knowledge to the youths.
