King George's Medical University (KGMC), Lucknow established in 1911 has been a frontrunner among medical education institutions in the country. This came about by an act passed on the 16th September 2002 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Sushree Mayawati. The college was transferred under a new university, called the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University.The institution is committed to the dissemination and advancement of knowledge in biomedical sciences and establishing itself as a centre of excellence in tertiary level health care in the state. The college was affiliated to the Allahabad University.
